Bayreuth Insitute of Macromolecular Research
Bayreuth Institute of Macromolecular Research
Macromolecular Research has been a research focus at the University of Bayreuth since its founding. In October 1983, two chairs in the field of macromolecular chemistry were united with two solid-state physics chairs based at the Bayreuth Institute of Macromolecular Research (BIMF). The institute examines the physical and chemical foundations of macromolecule systems. In particular, this includes the synthesis of such systems and determining their mechanical, electronic, and optical properties. One essential point that has been emphasized in Bayreuth for many years is close cooperation between scientists from different fields (chemistry, physics, and materials science). Such collaboration has allowed the institute to acquire numerous large pieces of equipment, for instance by way of a Bavarian research programme in new materials (BayNW). The BIMF has also helped create two very successful collaborative research centres, run by university scholars in the fields of chemistry and physics.
